different: wellbeing and treatment
before any physiotherapy
the 60-minute session, in both cases
to see a doctor first
The difference
Massage and physiotherapy, side by side
If you have a niggle and just want relief, a massage will do. If there is an injury, pain that will not go away or a diagnosis, physiotherapy is what you need.
| Massage | Physiotherapy | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is for | Relieving muscle tension, tiredness and stress, and looking after yourself. | Treating an injury or condition: sprains, tendinitis, sciatica, jaw problems, rehabilitation after surgery. |
| Who gives it | Massage therapists with specific training in each technique. | Registered physiotherapists. It is a regulated health profession. |
| How it starts | You tell us how you feel and which area bothers you. | Always with a prior assessment of your case. |
| Where, at Templo | At all four centres. | At the Barrio del Pilar health centre. |
| Price | €75 for a 60-minute session. | €75 for a 60-minute session. |
When a massage is right for you
If it is tension, tiredness or stress
A knot from posture or stress
Tight shoulders, a stiff neck after hours at the computer.
Tiredness and stress
You sleep badly, you are wired, your body will not let go.
Heavy legs or fluid retention
A feeling of heaviness at the end of the day.
When physiotherapy is right for you
If there is an injury, pain that will not ease or a diagnosis
Jaw pain or bruxism
You clench your teeth, it hurts to chew or your jaw clicks.
A knot that keeps coming back
When massage helps but the problem returns.
Doctor first
When to see a doctor first
Neither massage nor physiotherapy replaces a medical diagnosis. See your doctor first, or go to A&E if it is severe, if you notice any of these signs:
- Pain after a knock, a fall or an accident.
- Pain together with fever or feeling generally unwell.
- Tingling, loss of strength or loss of feeling that is getting worse.
- Pain that does not improve with rest or wakes you up at night.
- An area that is swollen, hot or red.
- Chest pain or shortness of breath: in that case, go to A&E.
If you are pregnant or have a diagnosed condition, tell us when you book.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions
Is a deep tissue massage physiotherapy?
No. A deep tissue massage relieves a knot or a tight area and needs no prior assessment. Physiotherapy treats a specific condition, is given by a registered physiotherapist and always starts with an assessment.
Where do you offer physiotherapy?
At the Barrio del Pilar health centre, Avenida de Betanzos 64. Massages are available at all four centres.
How much does each one cost?
A 60-minute session costs €75 for both massage and physiotherapy. Shorter sessions start at €26.25.
Can I get a physiotherapy invoice for my insurance?
Physiotherapy is given by registered physiotherapists. If you need an invoice for your insurer, mention it when you book and reception will advise you.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your case. For physiotherapy you will be told after the assessment; for massage, it depends on how you respond to the first session.
I am not sure what I need. What should I do?
Message us on WhatsApp or say so when you book. We will guide you before you start, and if it is physiotherapy we begin with the assessment.
